Victory beyond reach for Empoli, as they only manage a 2-2 draw with Genoa
On Friday, Empoli and Genoa were held to a 2-2 draw at Carlo Castellani. Empoli were looking to continue their run, following a 2-1 victory against Sassuolo. Genoa are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. As things stand, Empoli are currently 8th with 16 points from 12 matches, while Genoa sit in 15th, with 9 points from 12.
Genoa started the game well, with a goal from Domenico Criscito, 13 minutes in, seeing out the first half 0-1.
Empoli took the initiative in the second half, thanks to Federico Di Francesco finding the net, 62 minutes in. Azzurri looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a goal from Szymon Zurkowski in the 71st minute to establish a 2-1. In the end though, their celebrations were kept brief, as Flavio Junior Bianchi equalised for The Griffin just before the final whistle and seeing the game end 2-2.
For Empoli, Patrick Cutrone, Samuele Ricci, Szymon Zurkowski, Fabiano Parisi and Ardian Ismajli, came on for Filippo Bandinelli, Leo Stulac, Nicolas Haas, Riccardo Marchizza and Riccardo Fiamozzi. Genoa brought on Valon Behrami, Yayah Kallon, Paolo Ghiglione, Flavio Junior Bianchi and Filippo Melegoni, to replace Nicolo Rovella, Stefano Sturaro, Davide Biraschi, Pablo Galdames and Andrea Cambiaso.
The referee booked Nicolo Rovella, Stefano Sturaro, Andrea Masiello and Johan Vasquez for Genoa.
Empoli will next travel to Hellas Verona, while Genoa will face Roma at home.
